The construction work of Imetame Logística Porto’s port enterprise is progressing, and an important milestone[IME1] is the start of the quay construction, which in the port first operational phase will have the capacity to handle up to 300,000 containers per year.
Soon, the driving of the quay piles will soon begin, which in this first phase of construction will be 750 meters long and 70 meters wide, this represents an important stage of the engineering works of the port complex. Once this structure is completed, we will be closer to receive the first vessel in the port, which is expected to be operational in the first semester of 2025.
The concrete used in the works will be manufactured at Imetame Logística Porto’s own Concrete Center, which is ready and commissioned to start manufacturing. In this first phase of construction, 3,240 precast parts will be used, which were also manufactured in Imetame’s port area, in addition to that piles, beams, submerged concrete and the slab cast on site.
Aiming to proceed with security and quality, a 300-tonne crane was recently purchased, which combine with other equipment called Cantitraveller, they will be used to construct the foundations of the quay, including the excavation and driving of the piles. The Cantitraveller was manufactured and assembled with more than 300 tons of steel, it moves on the already driven piles, guaranteeing a uniqueness during this phase of the construction, as it is not affected by the waves during the work.
“This stage of the construction is very important when it comes to the development of the works, and we are committed in making everything a success. In addition to investing in state-of-the-art technological equipment, we also seek to use engineering solutions in order to contribute to the financial savings of the enterprise and ensure compliance with our work schedule.” adds Geraldo Magela Giacomin, the General Construction Manager, responsible for the construction of the quay.
