Throughout the licensing process of Imetame Porto Aracruz, the company has been committed to prioritizing a labor force based in the region of the port, in Barra do Riacho, providing job and professional training opportunities while also promoting the development of the region.

In 2021, the company initiated a series of meetings with the leaders of indigenous communities and villages to inform them of the hiring process and the criteria established by public hearings, such as the use of voter ID. The leaders received a candidate registration form and were made available in their communities.

“As I personally committed to at the public hearings, we will prioritize the hiring of residents of the region. We hope that people will show interest and make an effort to qualify for the opportunities available during the construction works, but especially during the operation of the port. We understand that the local population of the region is very enthusiastic about this topic, and we at Imetame are doing our part. I will be very pleased if our entire staff is from the region”, said the founder of Grupo Imetame, Etore S.  Cavallieri.

With the help of SINE Aracruz, Imetame has been mapping all the available professionals. Among the communities already visited in the first round are: Barra do Riacho, Vila do Riacho, Barra do Sahy, Santa Marta, Putiri, Mar Azul e as aldeias Pau Brasil, Córrego do Ouro, Nova Esperança, Areal, Comboios, Olho D’água, Três Palmeiras, Boa Esperança, Piraquê-Açu, Amarelos, Caeiras Velha, and Irajá. Now, the second round of mapping in these locations is set to begin. Candidates who do not meet the priority criteria in these two rounds will remain in the database for future opportunities.

After each round of data collection, the selected candidates are invited to a meeting where the opportunities and criteria of the selection process are presented and the profile evaluation is carried out. In individual visits, the team talks with the candidates about their knowledge and skills, aiming to reveal which aspect each individual needs to be trained on, also motivating them to complete the necessary schooling for each vacancy.

The mapping, selection, and profile evaluation of the company’s employee candidates is cyclical and will be carried out throughout the installation and operation period of the port, always counting on the important partnership of community leaders, indigenous chiefs, and SINE Aracruz.

“These actions of the company are important – being present in the communities of Vila do Riacho; supporting people by preparing them for the workforce; listening to the community; informing them on the importance of studies; this whole commitment to providing jobs on the waterfront.”

Carlos Francisco de Abreu – President of the Vila do Riacho Association.

“These efforts have been great for the local community. It makes people hopeful, especially young people, as they will have the opportunity to participate in the port. It is greatly important, as it aggregates people who have not yet had opportunities in the labor market. This relationship is very beneficial, this vision of the company within the community.”

Marinaldo Antunes dos Reis – President of the Community Center of Barra do Sahy
