From the construction stage, the port has implemented monitoring of environmental, social, and economic indicators, establishing a broad management model that, during its early years of operation, will serve as a reference for demonstrating the company’s commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
Imetame’s programs are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), serving as benchmarks for ports worldwide.
Since 2016, the program has been restoring forest ecosystems, springs, and riparian forests, with results already visible across several regions of northern Espírito Santo.
Reflorescer also develops initiatives focused on reforestation and strengthening indigenous lands, planting fruit trees and species used in traditional medicine. Areas in villages near Aracruz’s coastline, within the port’s indirect influence, are being enriched with native Atlantic Forest species.

We encourage and support families in the local community with the production of handmade soap, contributing to the environment and creating a complementary source of income for these people.
In the development of this program, employees are also encouraged to deliver leftover used oil from their homes to collection points at Imetame, contributing to the program’s environmental awareness initiatives.
In this program, the implementation, care, and development of vegetable gardens are practiced as tools for transformation. Families receive all the necessary materials and guidance for growing garden vegetables. More than a just source of food, the program represents a tool for transformation, raising awareness and encouraging families to live lifestyles based on a new reality.
Cultivating a New Level of Awareness is also implemented in local schools and seeks to focus on environmental awareness and healthy eating, introducing families to such concepts that are important in the daily lives of children.
Another distinctive aspect of this program is that the actions take place close to the Provisional Detention Center of Aracruz, Epirito Santo, with the solidarity vegetable garden offering activities and lifestyle changes, in addition to providing all the fresh vegetables that are grown to the various institutions of the municipality.
During winter, we warm the hearts of thousands of children and elderly people by delivering sets of sweatshirts, pajamas, blankets, and quilts to underprivileged communities. Imetame employees join this beautiful mission, sharing joy, generosity, and gratitude.
We believe that by encouraging education, we can contribute by promoting the development of better people for the next generations. Since 2004, we have carried out the distribution of kits of school supplies to thousands of children, promoting new levels of awareness for the future.
Instead of the traditional end-of-year gifts sent to customers, we fulfill the dreams of special families, gifting them furniture, household appliances, and building materials, among other wishes and needs.
The program began in 2004 and makes all the difference in the lives of the people who participate, with a special new year’s event for the benefited families. This action generates a connection between families and customers, who contribute to making dreams come true through partnerships and agreements entered into throughout the year.
The positive impacts of this action are magnified among the communities involved, as well as throughout the chain of corporate relations between companies.
“The UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 14, regarding life below water, are at the heart of what we do at Instituto Baleia Jubarte, which is to seek the harmonization of human activities with the conservation of marine and coastal biodiversity, using the tools of scientific research and environmental education. That is why our work of acoustically monitoring the company’s port region – in partnership with Imetame – is so important, because it represents the work of harmonizing economic development with nature conservation, which we believe so much in.”
Jose Truda Palazzo – Institutional Development Coordinator of Instituto Baleia Jubarte
Developed since 2019, with specialists from the third sector and researchers from Brazilian federal universities, we are taking steps beyond the guidance provided by the Chico Mendes Institute of Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and creating a milestone in the advancement of knowledge in the field of bioacoustics applied to port projects, especially regarding the interaction of construction and, in the future, operational activities with small cetaceans and marine chelonians – important species of ichthyofauna – and forming the basis for quality environmental education.
For determining the indicators, the Environmental Performance Index (IDA) was consulted, a reference for the assessment of port sustainability and used by the National Water Transport Agency (ANTAQ), which annually classifies private terminals according to this index.
In this way, by seeking harmony between the development of port activities and the conservation of natural resources, indicators are being established since the beginning of the installation phase as partnerships are formed and a solid environmental database is built.
In addition to improving our sustainability management, we will also be establishing parameters to help mitigate and prevent unwanted impacts on the environment and consolidating tools for the education and awareness of the communities that surround us.
